Concepção de Artefatos Digitais (CAD)

Course on designing and prototyping digital artifacts, with Alex Sandro Gomes (2024.2, 2025.1, and 2026.1).

An empty classroom at the end of the day: rows of chairs, a blank board, a louvered window; one red chair turned to face the others.

The course

CIN0131 is CIn's digital product design course, taught by Alex Sandro Gomes. Giordano Cabral participated as a second instructor in the three semesters following his postdoctoral fellowship, with the engagement content — the reason someone would come back to use the product — and the corresponding gamification repertoire: Octalysis, by Yu-kai Chou, and the "Fourteen forms of fun".

02 · Teaching

Semesters

Three editions in co-teaching: 2024.2 (40 hours from Giordano Cabral), 2025.1 and 2026.1 (20 hours each). Classroom holds the 2025.1 card; the other two are in Drive and in the allocation records.

03 · Teaching

What students do

A four-stage design thinking process, each with a formal submission: empathize and define (immersion, interviews, personas, competitor analysis, a review of current research and technology); ideate; create low-fidelity prototypes and storyboards; evaluate usability. The final submission is a video of up to ten minutes covering all stages, so that each student's contribution can be reviewed. Readings range from IDEO's Design Kit and Stanford's HCI classes to the literature on persuasive design; in 2025.1, AI tools for secondary research (Scite, Elicit, Consensus, Perplexity).
