Course background & editionsExplore the six strategies presented by Pedro Machado Manhães de Castro and Olivier Devillers at SoCG 2011.
The academic term labels differ from the calendar years. The 2020.1 Calculus course, taught in 2021, built on the experience of the supplementary 2020.3 course, taught in 2020.
This was the first time our classes were given entirely remotely. A very exciting challenge, though rewarding as we could see some improvements in the way students were tackling average problems or making a fit in their schedule to master 21 century skills like video editing and more. Our strategy was to let students choose what they like the most amongst several different activities (including interactive problems using Desmos, traditional list of problems, challenges, and much more). We have (public) videos on youtube for each lecture, with a mind map for the lecture and for the topics, with a small set of guide questions for each leaf in the mind map so the student can identify if he or she has obtained the skill, and a live stream each week where we propose several challenging questions and solve them with the students. The recorded playlists remain available: Pré-Cálculo and Cálculo I.
