The term is generally used to  describe data centers available to many users over the Internet. Large  clouds, predominant today, often have functions distributed over  multiple locations from central servers. If the connection to the user  is relatively close, it may be designated an Edge server. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clouds may be limited to a single organization (enterprise  clouds,) be available to many organizations (public cloud,) or a  combination of both (hybrid cloud.) The largest <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (abre numa nova aba)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Public_cloud\" target=\"_blank\">public cloud<\/a> is <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Amazon_AWS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (abre numa nova aba)\">Amazon AWS<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cloud computing relies on sharing of resources to achieve coherence and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Economies_of_scale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (abre numa nova aba)\">economies of scale<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Advocates of public and hybrid clouds note that cloud computing allows companies to avoid or minimize up-front <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (abre numa nova aba)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/IT_infrastructure\" target=\"_blank\">IT infrastructure<\/a>  costs.
