Learning Analytics

  • How we work

Learning Analytics is “the measurement, collection, analysis, and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, for the purposes of understanding and optimizing learning and the environments in which it occurs” (SoLAR, 2012). Learning Analytics developed originally in higher education and academic settings, as a shift from academic analytics and business intelligence towards learning processes.

The area of Learning Analytics has been applied in many areas of knowledge. Recently, with the expansion of computer-supported and massive distance learning courses, many researchers in the field of Technology Enhanced Learning were attracted to use quantitative methods like data mining and statistics to investigate educational phenomena in this learning set. This research theme aims to develop and use quantitative methods to explore data sets, and interpret collaborative behaviours in order to orient the design of new collaborative systems for learning.
