The ProHist Project aims the development of algorithms and techniques for image processing of historical documents (as letters, post cards, maps, floor plans, pictures and drawings). It is being developed at the Center of Informatics, Federal University of Pernambuco, Recife, Brazil. The projct involves main aspects of image processing of ancient documents as thresholding, segmentation (in many of its aspects), pre-processing (as noise reduction, skew estimation), character recognition, just as many possible applications as color restoration, document image retrieval, image synthesis, automatic indexing, among others. Two other projects were originated from ProHist: a Digital Library which allows the insertion of different funcionalities for specific databases (ProHist Digital Library) and a project which aims the creation of document image processing algorithms based on visual perception (PercDoc).

Through this web site you can find more information about the project and recent advances in its main areas.
